Phuket police announce slew of drug arrests

PHUKET: Coinciding with the arrival of Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on the island yesterday (May 9), police announced a spate of arrests in anti-drug operations, including seizure of more than 4,000 methamphetamine pills (ya bah).

One report by Phuket City Police explained the bust of a particular “network” that resulted in the arrest of nine suspects.

Kanokporn ‘Toon’ Khankaew, 24, from Nakhon Sawan province, Atchara ‘Film’ Nutapong, 20, from Wichit and a 17-year-old female teen from Nong Khai were arrested at a house in Soi Sukato 2 within the Phuket Garden Ville housing estate, off Soi Samkong near Phuket Rajabhat University, after they were found with 202 ya bah pills in clear plastic bags and 0.5 grammes of crystal meth (ya ice) in two clear plastic bags.

In making the arrests police seized three mobile phones, two sets of ya ice drug use equipment, two sets of methamphetamine use equipment along with 75 clear plastic bags and two digital scales.

The three were taken to Phuket City Police Station and charged with illegal possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell and with illegal online gambling.

Arrested in the parking area nearby were Wutthichai ‘Big’ Naksri, 29, from Moo 7, Wichit, and Suwanna ‘Piw’ Koisin, 37, from Moo 10, Chalong, after they were found with 102 ya bah pills.

Seized in making the arrests were a Honda Scoopy motorbike and two mobile phones.

They were taken to Phuket City Police Station and both charged with illegally jointly distributing a Category 1 narcotic, while Wutthichai was also charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Udomsak ‘James’ Chusit, 24, from Moo 6, Wichit, Warawut ‘Mad’ Phiman, 22, from Moo 4, Rawai, and Tharathep ‘Nont’ Saengnak, 20 (registered address not reported), were arrested at a rented room in Soi Bunlert, off Patak Rd in Chalong after they were found with 391 ya bah pills

And 10.14g of ya ice.

Seized in making the arrests were one digital scale, 30 clear plastic bags, green plastic straws with pointed ends cut off and other drug use equipment and three mobile phones.

They were taken to Chalong Police Station and charged with jointly distributing a Category 1 narcotic by having them for sale as an act of trade and with illegally consuming a Category 1 narcotic.

Meanwhile, Waewta ‘Wa’ Khumkhong, 34, from Moo 3, Ratsada, was arrested at a rented room on Soi Ta Khiao, off Thepprathan Rd in Moo 1, Ratsada, after she was found with a “Thai-made firearm” made to fire 12-gauge shotgun cartridges and a .45-calibre Firestar handgun, along with four shotgun cartridges and six .45-calibre bullets.

Waewta was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, possession of an illegal firearm and illegal possession of ammunition, police reported.

4,000 PILLS

Thalang Police yesterday also reported the arrest of eight suspects along with seizure of more than 4,000 ya bah pills in a series of arrests from Tuesday through Thursday (May 7-9).

Thanong ‘Back’ Raksakham, 26, from Moo 8, Thepkrasattri, was arrested at an unregistered house in Moo 8 after he was found with 243 ya bah pills.

Supachai ‘Nong’ Poonsong, 38, and Salisa ‘Pae’ Poonsong, 34, both from Phatthalung were arrested by the side of Soi Chokchai in Moo 7, Srisoonthorn, after they were found with 201 ya bah pills.

Kriangkrai Sala-ngam, 25, from Moo 8, Thepkrasattri, was arrested in front of an unregistered house in Moo 9, Thepkrasattri, after he was found with 10 ya bah pills, while Yongyut ‘Piang’ Chitsawat, 31, from Satun was arrested in Moo 10, Thepkrasattri, after he was found with 370 ya bah pills.

And finally, Apiwut Saleechan, 26, Narongsak Anan-aye, 30, and Sunantha Anan, 28, also all from Satun, were then arrested at a rented room in moo 9, Thepkrasattri, after they were found with 4040 ya bah pills.

All eight suspects were taken into custody and charged accordingly for “engaging in the act for trade and causing the spread of drugs among the people which has an impact on the security of the state and the safety of the general public”, police reported.
