The temporary measure, announced by Phuket Provincial Police, allows fuel trucks to operate 24 hours a day, suspending existing time restrictions that normally limit tanker movements.
Officials said the move is intended to ensure a steady and sufficient supply of fuel to petrol stations across Phuket, supporting both residents and businesses amid concerns that international tensions could disrupt energy transportation systems.
The order was marked as coming into effect last Friday (Mar 20), and will remain in place until the global situation stabilises. The order was publicly posted online only late yesterday (Mar 23).
In a statement, police confirmed the decision was made as a precautionary step following unrest involving countries in the Middle East, which may impact fuel logistics and supply chains.
“Allowing oil tankers to operate without time restrictions will help maintain consistent fuel distribution to service stations and meet public demand,” the statement noted.
Despite the relaxation of operating hours, authorities have urged fuel truck operators and drivers to exercise increased caution on the roads.
Drivers have been asked to prioritise safer routes and take steps to minimise disruption to general traffic, particularly during peak travel periods.
The measure is part of wider efforts to safeguard Phuket’s energy security and maintain confidence among tourism operators and local businesses, particularly as the island approaches the busy Songkran holiday period next month.
The statement said the move was intended to ensure supply remains stable in the face of external uncertainties.
