Lt Col Watcharin Jirathikanwiwat of the Tha Chatchai Police was notified of the accident on Thepkrassattri Rd south bond at 11am where it was reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the road.
Lt Col Watcharin, Mai Khao Municipality (OrBorTor) and Kusoldharm rescue workers arrived at the scene to find a group of residents gathered around the body of the victim, later identified by residents as Ms Malee Chailek, 53, lying face down in the road.
About 50 metres from the body was a damaged red plate Toyota Camry registered in Phang Nga.
Lt Col Watcharin said, “We were told by witnesses that the victim was crossing the road without paying attention to on coming cars.
“The driver of the car that hit the victim had already been taken to Tha Chatchai Police Station by another driver who was afraid of the angry mob that had gathered at the scene. We will question the driver about the incident,” he said.
The body of Ms Malee was taken to Thalang Hospital.
