Claude de Crissey organised the gathering so people could pay their respects and support one another.

“A small number of people met together to pay their respects. We wanted to show our support to all the families, friends, mothers and husbands involved in the attacks,” Mr Claude told The Phuket News.

“We want to support each other and show the world that we do not agree with the killings. We don’t understand the reasons for the attacks. We cannot accept how these people’s lives were taken.”

The three-day killing spree began Wednesday (January 7) at the office of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo that saw Cherif and Said Kouachi massacre 12 people including some of the country's best-known cartoonists. A day later, Coulibaly shot dead the policewoman.

The massive manhunt for the two brothers developed into a car chase Friday (January 9) and then a tense standoff as they took one person hostage in a printing firm northeast of Paris.

A number of marches have taken place in France, and across the world, to honour the lives lost in the attacks, including a march through Paris today where millions of people were expected to join.
