Police and rescue workers were called to the scene, near Wat Srisoonthorn on Thepkrasattri Rd in Srisoonthorn, Thalang, at 5:30am.

The passenger van had suffered extension damage to its front in the impact, while many five-kilo bags lay scattered across the road.

There were no passengers in the van at the time of the accident.

Rescue workers safely extracted Jaturong Veeraphun, the 35-year-old driver of the passenger van, from his crumpled vehicle. Mr Jaturong has suffered minor head injuries when his head struck the steering wheel in the impact.

The driver of the six-wheeled truck ice truck, Vitsanu Intho, 45, was unharmed in the collision.

Police reported that Mr Vitsanu was delivery the ice to the Thalang area when the collision occurred.

No other details were reported, other than police were continuing their investigation.

* Correction: The van struck the back of the truck. It was not a head-on collision. The error is regretted.
