The donation by Yutthana Chamroenwong was carried out yesterday (July 15), with his family granting permission for his name to be published in recognition of his final act of generosity.
Medical teams at Vachira Phuket Hospital retrieved the donated organs and eyes before they were transported under police escort from the hospital in Phuket Town to Phuket International Airport. From there, the donations were flown to Bangkok for transplant procedures.
The transport operation involved officers from Phuket City, Thalang and Sakhu police stations, working with Vachira Phuket Hospital’s Eye and Organ Donation Centre, Airports of Thailand (AoT) and Nok Air to ensure the organs reached their destination within the strict time limits required for successful transplantation.
According to officials, a single organ donor can save or improve the lives of up to eight people, making rapid transport critical to preserving the organs for surgery.
In a separate statement, Vachira Phuket Hospital confirmed that Mr Yutthana’s family also donated both of his corneas to the Thai Red Cross Society Eye Bank. The hospital said it was the fifth eye donation received during the 2026 fiscal year.
Hospital staff expressed their condolences to the Chamroenwong family and thanked them for their decision, describing the donation as a compassionate act that would restore sight and improve the quality of life for patients waiting for corneal transplants.
Officials also thanked motorists who made way for the organ transport convoy, helping ensure the donated organs reached Bangkok as quickly as possible.
