Wanida Pakamaad, 29, a late-night noodle and somtam vendor in Phuket Town, raised the alarm with a post on Facebook on Saturday. (See story here.)

Ms Wanida reported that she bought the suspect serving of Pla Ra Kra dii Luan, which roughly translates to “pickled fish made from moonlight gourami”, from a Super Cheap outlet on Surin Rd in Phuket Town.

“How could the supermarket have done something like this to me. I can’t imagine how. The supermarket must check this. Please share,” she said.

On Monday, Ms Wanida formalised her complaint by filing a formal report with the Phuket office of the Consumer Protection Board at Phuket Provincial Hall.

Panida Mevichear, of the Phuket Consumer Protection Office, told The Phuket News, “We are preparing the documents in order to officially inspect the products sold at the main Super Cheap supermarket.

“We will then join with Phuket Provincial Health Office officers to inspect and question the store about the pickled fish sold there,” she said.
