Officers from the Economic and Trade Regulation and Development Group of the Phuket Provincial Commerce Office were deployed to inspect participating outlets, including Lotus’s Phuket and GO Wholesale in Phuket Town.
The inspections are intended to ensure that reduced-price goods are being made available to the public as part of efforts to ease household expenses amid ongoing volatility in global energy prices.
More than 1,000 items are currently included in the scheme in Phuket, covering a wide range of everyday essentials such as soap, shampoo, detergent, rice, sauces and cooking oil.
The programme is being implemented in cooperation with major retail operators with nationwide distribution networks, allowing discounted goods to be offered consistently across the province.
Participating products include both house brands and second-tier brands, with price reductions ranging from 25% to 58%, aimed at lowering expenses and expanding affordable purchasing options for consumers.
The nationwide campaign was officially launched on Wednesday (Apr 1) by Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, alongside Commerce Minister Supajee Suthamphan, as an urgent measure to address rising living costs driven by fluctuating global energy prices.
The initiative brings together more than 10 major wholesalers and retailers and over 20 leading manufacturers to offer discounts on more than 3,000 essential goods nationwide, with price reductions of up to 58%.
Officials said the scheme will initially run until the end of May, with products to be rotated regularly to ensure continued access to affordable goods, while future phases are expected to include more community products and SMEs to support local economies.
