According to the Royal Household, Princess Bajrakitiyabha had been receiving treatment at Chulalongkorn Hospital under the Thai Red Cross Society since Dec 15, 2022, after collapsing due to a heart-related condition and remaining unconscious.

The Royal Household reported that her condition deteriorated on May 21 this year following an abdominal infection caused by inflammation of the colon, accompanied by low blood pressure, an irregular heartbeat and abnormal blood clotting. Despite intensive treatment by her medical team, her condition continued to worsen.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha passed away peacefully at Chulalongkorn Hospital at 7:48pm on Thursday, June 11. She was 47 years old.

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has ordered that royal funeral rites be conducted with the highest honours in accordance with royal tradition. Her Royal Highness’s body will lie in state at Phiman Rattaya Throne Hall within the Grand Palace.

In a separate announcement issued today (June 12), the Royal Household Bureau outlined arrangements for members of the public to pay their respects.

The public will be permitted to offer holy water before a portrait of Princess Bajrakitiyabha at Sahathai Samakhom Hall in the Grand Palace from 8:30am to noon tomorrow (June 13).

From Sunday, June 14, members of the public may pay their respects before the royal portrait daily from 8:30am to 4pm, with a book of condolences available for signing.

The Royal Household also announced that the public will be allowed to pay respects to the royal remains at Phiman Rattaya Throne Hall following the completion of the 15-day royal merit-making ceremonies. Public access will begin on June 27 and continue daily from 9am to 9pm.

The announcement further noted that members of the royal family, the Privy Council, Cabinet, government agencies, state enterprises, private-sector organisations and members of the public will be invited to participate in merit-making and funeral prayer ceremonies after the completion of the 100-day royal merit-making period.
