The series of marathons, mini-marathons and fun runs is being held across the country as part of the government campaign, sponsored and organised by the Muang Thai Life insurance company, to promote sports and healthy active lifestyles.
The campaign got underway with the Muang Thai Bangkok Marathon on August 23, followed by the Muang Thai Korat Marathon in Nakorn Ratchasima on September 23.
The series will close with the Muang Thai Chiang Mai Marathon on December 20.
Each of the events comprise four runs: full marathon (42.195km); half-marathon (21km); mini-marathon (10km); and a Muang Thai Smile Run (5km).
“We hope that this marathon will boost tourism on the island and encourage residents to place a high value on exercise such as running or walking to promote healthy body and healthy lifestyle,” said Santi Pawai director of the Ministry of Tourism (MoTS) Phuket office.
The Phuket event will start with the first runners in the full marathon getting underway at 3:30am, with a scheduled event finish time of 10am.
Winners of the full, half-and mini-marathons will take home B10,000, while second and third place winners will receive B5,000 and B3,000 baht, respectively.
In addition, there will be a Fantasy Costume Competition under the theme “Sea Sand Sun”.
