A plan by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment could see the Andaman Sea turned into a world heritage site.

This was revealed by its minister Gen Dapong Rattanasuwan.

He said yesterday that he met chief of the natural resources and environment reform committee of the National Reform Council Mr Pramote Maiklad to discuss the direction for the natural resources and environment management and reform.

One of the major topics discussed and agreed was a plan to propose the Andaman sea as a world heritage site.

Currently, the Department of National Parks Wildlife, and Plant Conservation is conducting a feasibility study of the plan, as the previous plan had been conducted a decade ago and was not updated.

According to Gen Dapong, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha is particularly concerned about the livelihood of locals if the Andaman Sea is proposed and registered as a world heritage site.
