The main ceremony took place at Chartered Bank House in Phuket Town, where Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthavorn and his wife, Ms Kusumal, presided over the event.
Also in attendance were Vice Governor Adul Chuthong, Phuket Provincial Police Commander Sinlert Sukhum and Mueang Phuket District Chief Mr Pairoj Srilamul, who acted as registrar. Heads of government departments, members of the Phuket Red Cross Committee and representatives from the public and private sectors were also present to witness and congratulate the couples.
Provincial officials reported that 76 couples formally registered their marriages across Phuket, including Thai nationals, foreign nationals and same-sex couples, reflecting what organisers described as the province’s diversity and openness.
Of the total, 34 couples registered in Mueang Phuket District, 14 in Thalang District and 26 in Kathu District.
The venue in Phuket Town was decorated for the occasion, with organisers arranging commemorative backdrops and photo opportunities to allow couples to capture memories marking the start of their married lives.
Officials noted that the annual Valentine’s Day registration event is intended not only to celebrate love, but also to encourage couples to formalise their unions under Thai law, ensuring access to legal rights, welfare benefits and clear personal status.
The initiative also forms part of the Department of Provincial Administration’s policy to enhance public service delivery and promote equality, with organisers highlighting Phuket’s image as an international tourist destination that values inclusivity and equal access to government services, said an official report of the Phuket Town event.
Valentine’s Day is widely regarded as an auspicious date for marriage registration in Thailand, and provincial authorities said the continued popularity of the event demonstrates strong public support for both family unity and equal recognition under the law.
