Phuket Marine Office warns of collapsed jetty in Chalong

PHUKET: Phuket Marine Office Chief Surat Sirisaiyat warned boat operators and sailors that one of the jetties at Chalong Pier collapsed and cannot be used for mooring.

“The right side of the pier has collapsed and can now pose be dangerous to people. All boats are banned from using the pier until repairs are completed,” says an official notice signed by Mr Surat.

The notice doesn't specify what exactly happened and when. Picture of the damaged pier was sent to The Phuket News earlier today (Mar 4).

Mr Surat wasn't available for comments at the moment.

well they can't see the speeding boats coming in everyday or the illegal beach structures, so what do you expect.

Yes, when a floating object cracks, gets a hole in the hull, yes, than it starts sinking.
When you notice the start of this happening you have immediately take action to prevent sinking.
Sinking is not waiting for office paper work and budget requests.
Probably some vessels were mooring roughly and damaged the hull?

But I think they still not have a clue. Just staring from office window.
