Kusolharm rescuers and Phuket city police were called to an area of Khlong Bang Yai, about 500 meters from the Rungrawee Mansion in Talad Yai.
Upon arrival at the scene, they found the shirtless man lying unconcious in a pool of blood in a shallow part of the canal. He was bleeding heavily from a wound on the upper part of his chest, and his left collar bone had what appeared to be a stab wound.
Rescuers workers used a ladder to reach the man, and it took them around 20 minutes to take him out. A bloodied shirt and a shoes were found nearby.
He was immediately taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
The victim was later named as Anan Kamdee, 43, a Phuket resident.
Police were questioning nearby residents to find out exactly what had happened to him.
One witness said, “I saw him unconscious in the canal and thought that he might have fallen in.”
Police are looking for a suspect or suspects believed to have taken part in the assault.
Mr Anan is still in Vachira Phuket Hospital receiving treatment for the injuries he sustained.
