The man, Yusob Plaikuam, rushed out to help rescue workers after trees fell onto the vehicles during heavy rain on the Pa Khlok-Phuket Rd, east of the Heroines Monument, at about 11:30pm, reported Capt Suchart Luecha of the Pa Klok Police.
Mr Yusob collapsed while helping to clear the trees and was rushed unconscious to Thalang Hospital, where doctors later confirmed that he had died of cardiac arrest, Capt Suchart said.
The drivers of the van and the car suffered no injuries, police confirmed.
Pa Khlok Police, including specifically Capt Suchart, as well as Kusoldharm rescue workers and many local residents posted messages on Facebook expressing their deep condolences to Mr Yusob’s family and their and gratitude for his actions.
Pa Khlok Mayor Panya Sampaorat said he will inform the Thalang District Chief of Mr Yusob’s actions, and his sacrifice, so the government can recognise his loss.
