Both the highest bid for a special plate and the overall figure were below those achieved in previous years.
Nevertheless, significant amounts of money went into a national fund for road accident prevention and reduction, and for grants to buy wheelchairs or artificial limbs for people crippled in road accidents.
The top price was paid for the number KorMor 9999, which sold for B1,030,000 – down from the B1.4 million paid for GorPor 9999 in last year’s auction.
The overall revenue from the auction was B23.7 million, down from B26 million last year and B30.5 million in 2012.
The auction was chaired by the national Director-General of the Land Transport Department, Autsathai Rattanadilok Na Phuket, and was attended by a variety of VIPs including Governor Maitri Inthusut.
