Phuket Vice Governor Anupap Rodkwan Yodrabam presided over the opening ceremony at Phuket Rajabhat University, where he was joined by Assistant Professor Rangsan Phol Samak, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology from the University, in addition to faculty management members, representatives from the expert faculty committee, private entrepreneurs and large numbers of students.
Assistant Professor Rangsun explained that National Science Day is an annual event held on Aug 18 where numerous faculties have partnered to develop and deliver the program.
He further explained the annual event honours His Majesty King Mongkut, Rama IV, regarded as the father of Thai science who initiated scientific research and education programmes in Thailand.
The occasion also honours and pays respectful remembrance to His Majesty the King His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej King Rama IX, who devoted so much of his time and wisdom to studies in the field of science and technology and who contributed so much to the subject’s development and the opening up of opportunities for Thais in the area.
There are a range of academic exhibitions showcasing scientific and technological innovations at the event curated by a range of experts in the respective fields, Assistant Professor Rangsun explained.
Additionally, there are a series of competitions and contests for people to engage in, including those focused on mathematics, problem solving and general science themed projects.
