The campaign event was held at the Chartered Bank Intersection in Phuket Town from 8am, with Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn presiding over the opening ceremony.
Also taking part were Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) President Rewat Areerob, PPAO Vice President Anupap Wechwanichsanong, PPAO Council chief Yupaporn Noonum and PPAO staff, along with representatives of the Election Commission, government agencies, local administrative organisations, the private sector, the media, members of the public and students.
Officials said the campaign aimed to provide accurate information about the election and referendum process, promote awareness of citizens’ rights and responsibilities, and build public confidence in a transparent and fair electoral process.
The Election Commission has set Feb 8 as polling day for the election of Members of the House of Representatives and the national referendum.
As part of the lead-up to polling day, the public has also been invited to attend candidate debates for all three Phuket constituencies on Feb 6 at Saphan Hin Cape.
According to organisers, the schedule will begin with the venue opening to the public at 4:30pm, followed by activities from 5pm. A special seminar titled ‘What kind of MP do the people want?’ will be held at 5:20pm, ahead of debates for Constituency 1 at 6:30pm, Constituency 2 at 8pm and Constituency 3 at 9pm.
Organisers encouraged residents to attend the debates to hear candidates’ visions, ideas and policies before deciding how to vote, and urged voters to consider information carefully to make informed choices as part of their participation in the democratic process.
