Phuket hotel worker injured after falling asleep at the wheel

PHUKET: A Phuket hotel worker suffered minor injuries this morning after he fell asleep at the wheel causing him to crash into a roadside restaurant before coming to rest in a roadside ditch. Four passengers in the car escaped uninjured.

Capt Natthee Phichitchainimet of the Thalang Police was notified of an accident on Thepkrasattri Rd at 5.30am this morning (Mar 2).

Upon a arrival at the scene police and rescue workers found broken tables and chairs belonging to the Makamdeekuai Restaurant and a damaged Honda Wave motorbike lying in the road.

Nearby was a Phuket-registered Ford Fiesta in a ditch.

The driver of the vehicle, Krisana Leupramoun 32, who had suffered minor injuries, told police that he was driving home to Phuket Town from his shift at a hotel in Mai Khao when he fell asleep at the wheel causing the accident.

Krisana was taken to Thalang Police Station for further questioning.
