The wreath-laying and homage ceremony was held at the King Chulalongkorn Monument at the old Phuket Provincial Hall that now serves as the offices of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) in Phuket Town, with Phuket Governor Saransak Srikruanetra presiding over the proceedings.

Governor Saransak was joined by his wife, Ms Ruedeewan, President of the Phuket Red Cross Society and President of the Phuket branch of the Interior Ministry Housewives Association, along with Vice Governors Adul Chuthong, Samawit Suphanphai and Suwit Phansengiam, and a host of high-ranking local officials.

The ceremony was attended by heads of government agencies, representatives of the courts and prosecution offices, the military, the police, local administrative organisations, private sector representatives, students and members of the public.

Participants laid wreaths before the statue of King Chulalongkorn in remembrance of His Majesty’s profound contributions to the nation. Governor Saransak led the formal laying of wreaths and garlands before delivering an address expressing gratitude for the late King’s enduring legacy.

King Chulalongkorn, revered as one of Thailand’s greatest reformers, introduced sweeping modernisations that transformed the country’s governance and infrastructure, including advancements in public administration, education and utilities, and he is especially remembered for his slavery and serfdom.

These reforms laid the foundations for Thailand’s development into a modern nation while preserving its sovereignty and independence ‒ achievements honoured nationwide each year on Oct 23, Chulalongkorn Day, noted an official report of the ceremony.
