At 7:30am, an alms-giving ceremony was held at the multipurpose area of Phuket Provincial Hall to honour the enduring legacy of His Majesty King Rama IX. The ceremony was presided over by Phra Sri Wachirakhun, Abbot of Kathu District and Abbot of Wat Sil Supharam (also known as Wat Mai Luang Pu Supa), who led 49 monks in receiving alms from officials and members of the public.

Governor Saransak, accompanied by his wife Ms Ruedeewan, President of the Phuket branch of the Red Cross Society, presided over the ceremony together with senior government officials, judges, prosecutors, police, military officers and volunteers. Hundreds of people from across Phuket attended to offer rice and dried food as a royal merit-making gesture in remembrance of His Majesty’s boundless benevolence.

Following the merit-making ceremony, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at 8:30am in the Mahisorn Phakdi Auditorium at the Phuket Provincial Administration Center.

Governor Saransak led officials and participants in placing wreaths before a portrait of King Bhumibol and delivered a speech of gratitude, expressing deep reverence and loyalty to His Majesty. Those in attendance then stood in silence to reflect on His Majesty’s lifelong dedication to the Thai people.

In his address, Governor Saransak recalled that throughout his more than 70-year reign, King Bhumibol Adulyadej devoted his life and intellect to improving the well-being of his subjects. His Majesty initiated more than 4,700 development projects across the country and bestowed the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy as a guiding principle for living with resilience, balance and sustainability.

The day of remembrance continued in the afternoon with a volunteer activity titled ‘We Do Good Deeds with Our Hearts’ held at Cherng Talay Wittayakhom School in Thalang. The event was organised by the Phuket Provincial Office as part of nationwide activities to honour King Bhumibol’s legacy and promote community unity under the royal aspiration of doing good deeds for the benefit of others.

At 2pm, Governor Saransak presided over the opening of the activity, joined by Thalang District Chief Siwat Rawangkul, heads of government agencies, teachers, students and local volunteers. Participants took part in cleaning the school grounds, improving the landscape, and planting sea sappanwood trees ‒ Phuket’s provincial tree ‒ as a symbolic act of remembrance and environmental care. Volunteers also collected rubbish around the school to raise awareness about conservation and community responsibility.

Governor Saransak said the initiative embodies the spirit of King Bhumibol’s teachings by encouraging people from all sectors to join hands in service to their communities. He noted that the ‘We Do Good Deeds with Our Hearts’ programme will continue across all districts of Phuket, fostering unity and commitment to sustainable community development in honour of His Majesty the late King.

“The people of Phuket continue to uphold His Majesty King Rama IX’s vision of working together with compassion, perseverance and a dedication to the common good,” Governor Saransak said.

“Through these activities, we not only pay tribute to His Majesty’s immeasurable grace but also continue his legacy by doing good for others and for our province.”
