The closure was confirmed in an announcement posted by Phuket Immigration.

Government offices will reopen tomorrow (June 2) before closing again on Wednesday for HM Queen Suthida’s birthday, which is recognised as a national public holiday. Normal services will resume on Thursday (June 4).

HM Queen Suthida became Queen in 2019 following her marriage to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun. Her birthday on June 3 was declared a national holiday later that year.

This year’s celebrations carry additional significance as 2026 marks Her Majesty’s 4th Cycle birthday anniversary.

In Thailand, a “cycle” refers to a 12-year period based on the traditional zodiac calendar. A 4th Cycle birthday marks the completion of 48 years of age, a milestone regarded as especially auspicious in Thai culture. Such anniversaries are often commemorated with special royal ceremonies, merit-making activities, public events and nationwide expressions of loyalty and respect.

Royal birthdays have long held an important place in Thai society, with government agencies, schools, businesses and communities participating in activities honouring members of the Royal Family. Major cycle birthdays are considered particularly significant and frequently attract nationwide celebrations.

To mark the occasion, the Bureau of the Royal Household has invited members of the public to sign an online book of congratulations for Her Majesty Queen Suthida. Messages may be submitted through the Bureau’s online system between June 1 and June 5.

The online congratulatory message system is available through the Bureau of the Royal Household website at www.royaloffice.th.

Special ceremonies and celebrations are being held nationwide to honour Her Majesty the Queen.

Government services and most bank branches outside shopping malls are unavailable during the public holidays, though bank branches inside major shopping centres may remain open under normal operating hours.
