The scholarship award ceremony for 2026 was held yesterday (May 28) at the Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus, with Phuket Vice Governor Suwit Phansengiam presiding over the event.
Also attending were Phan Thongchumnum, Director of the Plida Attaphokthanakorn Foundation, the deputy mayor of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation, representatives from local government bodies, the Phuket Charity Foundation, the Phuket Red Cross, Ministry of Education agencies and private-sector partners.
This year, the foundation provided long-term scholarships worth a combined B608,250 to 238 students under its care in an effort to ease the financial burden on vulnerable families.
The recipients included 38 kindergarten students, 84 primary school students, 70 secondary school students, 30 vocational or academic students and 16 university students studying for bachelor’s degrees.
The foundation noted that it has continuously awarded scholarships since 2005, helping children gain educational opportunities and build better futures. Over the past 22 years, the total value of scholarships awarded has reached B16,249,518.
The foundation has also worked for more than 28 years to support and protect vulnerable children in Phuket, with ongoing support from Prince of Songkla University Phuket Campus in all major projects.
Its work has earned several national and international honours, including the Songkhla Nakarin Memorial Award in 2021, an NGO Award from the Rockefeller Foundation in 2013, the National Outstanding Social Activity Organisation Award in 2012 and the National Outstanding Organisation for Child and Youth Development Award in 2006.
During the ceremony, Mr Suwit encouraged scholarship recipients to study hard, be good children to their parents and become responsible citizens.
He also thanked all sectors involved in supporting the project, saying the initiative would help children grow into important contributors to the country in the future.
