The victim, Pongchanasit Umthaisong 19, from Wichit, was shot with a .22-calibre pen gun. He was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital emergency room.
The victim told police before passing out that he and an acquaintance had got into a brawl on the road behind the police station. The acquaintance lost, but as Pongchanasit walked away the loser pulled out the pen gun and shot him.
Luckily the bullet did not penetrate Pongchansit's skull and Vachira Hospital staff confirmed in the evening that an operation to extract the bullet went well and Pongchanasit is out of danger.
Police are waiting for him to recover to the point where he can tell them who his opponent was.
