Officials from Thalang municipality including district chief Veera Kerdsirimongkol and volunteers launched the anti-drug campaign after learning that drug dealers have been using Line to sell drugs and making deliveries via the post office.
On Tuesday (June 30) Pichet Tipbumrung, 24, was arrested in Cherng Talay after officials received a tip-off that he had ordered drugs via Line and picked up his supply from the post office.
Officials went to Pichet̕s rented room in Soi Cherng Talay and during a search found 1.02 grams of crystal meth (ya ice), three kilos of marijuana, digital scales, 13 parcel boxes, 400 grams of kratom leaves.
Pichet was not at home when officials discovered his stash, but they did find he had left his mobile phone behind. Upon checking the phone it was discovered that he had ordered another supply of ganja via Line and was at the post office picking it up.
Officials went to the post office and found Pichet picking up a parcel which contained a further two kilos of ganja.
Pichet was arrested on the spot and taken to Cherng Talay Police Station where he was charged with illegal possession of Category 1 and Category 5 drugs with intent to sell.
Meanwhile, 43-year-old Winai Tabchai was arrested at a rented room in Thepkassattri on Wednesday (July 1) when he was found in possession of 120 methamphetamine pills (ya bah), .098 grams of crystal meth, a .38 mm pistol and one round of 9mm bullets.
Officials have stated that they suspected Winai posed as an antiques dealer to cover his real job as a drug dealer. When they saw him on Monday they tested him for drugs and he tested positive.
When they later searched his rented room they found the drugs, gun and ammunition.
Winai was taken to Thalang Police Station and charged with illegal possession of Category 1 drugs with intent to sell.
Upon his arrest, Winai gave police details of another man who lived in a nearby rubber plantation and sold drugs.
Later that evening officials went to the plantation and carried out a raid on a house there. During the raid 9.35 grams of ya ice, one round of .38mm bullets, digital scales, 65 plastic bags and a small portable safe were found.
The man who officials were looking for had already fled before they arrived.
Then, at 9am yesterday (July 2), Thalang officials carried out a search of Thalang post office after receiving a tip-off that a parcel containg drugs would be delivered there.
During the search officials found a parcel which contained 99.09 grams of ya ice with an estimated street value of B300,000.
The names and addresses of both the sender and receiver on the parcel were both found to be fake.
