Somsak Srisakul, 32, was arrested when he went to collect a package from the Lers-Dee parcel company in Phuket Town.
Pol Col Sermpan Sirikong told The Phuket News, “We had received information that ya ba was being sent through this parcel company.”
The tip-off included the name of the man paid to pick up parcels from the company: Somsak. So officers staked out the place and waited for him to arrive.
When he did, said Col Sermpan, the officers swooped. “We requested to be allowed to check the parcel. Inside it, we found 7,871 pills of ya ba packed in two lunchboxes.
“When we questioned Somsak, he denied knowing what was in the parcel. However, our investigation showed that this was the fifth time he had picked up a package.
“We also learned that Somsak was paid B1,500 per pick-up. We know who he delivered the parcels to, though we cannot reveal their name at present. The parcel came from Bangkok, so we have to search for the people there who are behind this.”
Somsak was charged with possession of narcotics for sale.
