A Thai lady was driving south on Chao Fa East Rd at around 5.30pm, heading towards Chalong Circle, when she smelled something strange in the car.
She stopped and got out moments before flames engulfed the front of the vehicle. She then watched as the entire car went up in flames.
The fire was eventually extinguished by a fire truck from the Phuket Raumjai Rescue Foundation, which quickly arrived on the scene less than 10 minutes later.
Initial police investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by electrical fault.
