Accompanied by Mayor Chalermuk Kebsap and a gaggle of officials and men in camouflage he visited Paradise Beach and then Tritrang Beach to check for encroachment onto the beaches or public land.

One Paradise Beach there was little to criticise; the last remaining concrete from an illegal restaurant will be demolished within seven days, he was told. Apart from that, he ordered the owner of a line of beach loungers to get them off the sand. The owner complied.

On Tritrang Beach, however, he spotted more serious infringements, with restaurants built out into the sand or over rocks at the water’s edge.

Patong officials have already issued orders for them to be demolished.

V/Gov Jamroen said he will visit again on Friday (August 1) and added that he hoped the encroachers will demolish all illegal structures by then.

If not, he warned, the government will take immediate steps to ensure the structures are removed.

In the afternoon he made a special visit to the White Box restaurant at Kalim Beach. See here for that story.
