The Thanachart Bank ATM machine was robbed today.

The Thanachart Bank ATM machine was robbed today.

The robbery is believed to have happened at 4.45am yesterday, but police were not alerted until 3pm because the alarm on the ATM was not linked to the police, but a centralised bank security system instead.

Instead police were notified some 10 hours later, when bank manager Narin Tunti reported the robbery.

When police arrived at the scene they found the back of the ATM machine had been opened with a cutting torch, and the criminals had stolen two money boxes. One contained B100 bills, and the other contained B500 bills. The total amount stolen was about B200,000.

Around B1.4 million was left in the machine.

Police also found two gas cylinders and a pair of gloves. They completed a fingerprint test of the machine and are now checking camera footage and questioning people in the area in the hope of finding the criminals.
