Thammawat Wongcharoenyos, President of the Sport Association of Phuket and Sports Authority of Thailand Committee Member oversaw the opening ceremony at the 4,000-seat gymnasium in Saphan Hin.
He was joined by Chinsich Chanarong, Vice President of the Sport Association of Phuket; Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO); Aomduen Phiwthong, Director of the PPAO Tourism and Sports Division; and Phuket City Deputy Mayor Pibulsak Kittithorakun.
The competition is a collaboration between the PPAO, the Sport Association of Phuket and the Phuket Futsal Club, and sees 107 teams and 1,256 players participating. The competition is divided into two categories and seven age groups: boys and girls under 12, 15 and 18 years old, and the general public category for men and women over 18.
The tournament aims to help develop the standard of futsal players in Phuket while promoting a healthy lifestyle based on the merits of good sportsmanship, said organisers.
The opening match saw the PPAO team take on the Phuket Sports Lovers Club, with the former winning 3-2.
