The certification recognises Phuket Airport’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through systematic carbon management and marks an upgrade from Level 1 accreditation.
The announcement was made during the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Assembly, Conference and Exhibition 2026, held from May 12-14 at the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park.
Withawat Sudta, Director of Airfield Operations at Phuket International Airport, accepted the certificate on behalf of the airport.
The Airport Carbon Accreditation programme is an internationally recognised framework aimed at helping airports worldwide improve environmental sustainability through independently verified carbon management standards.
To achieve Level 2 (Reduction) certification, airports must not only map and report carbon emissions under Level 1 requirements, but also demonstrate measurable reductions in emissions through structured management systems and reduction targets covering both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
Airport officials said the accreditation reflects Phuket Airport’s commitment to becoming a “low-carbon airport” and aligns with broader aviation industry goals of sustainable development and future net-zero emissions.
The airport added that it will continue implementing environmental measures, including improved energy management, more efficient use of resources, adoption of environmentally friendly technologies, and cooperation with public and private sector partners to strengthen its role as a socially and environmentally responsible international airport.
