Phuket airport arrests: American caught on overstay, illegal Krabi tour guide nabbed

PHUKET: Immigration officers at Phuket International Airport have reported two more foreigners arrested, one for overstay and the other for working illegally as a tour guide.

Officers arrested a 40-year-old American man at about 5:30am yesterday (Nov 9) after he was caught staying in the country illegally for 79 days after his permit to stay had expired (overstay).

The man, unnamed in the report by airport immigration, was arrested at the international departures hall.

The report noted that the arrest was made by an investigation team led by Pol Lt Col Akkhaphon Kaewkiat and officers of the Crime Suppression Investigation Team.

The American was taken to Sakhu Police Station for further legal action, the report noted.

On Wednesday, Immigration officers at the airport arrested a foreigner wanted on an arrest warrant for working illegally as a tour guide.

The foreigner, whose name, gender, age and nationality were not reported, was arrested at the Phuket Immigration Checkpoint at the international arrivals hall at about 11pm.

Lt Col Akkarapon and officers from the Crime Suppression Investigation Team made the arrest, along with police officers from Ao Nang Police Station in Krabi.

The foreigner was taken back to Ao Nang Police Station in Krabi for further legal action, airport immigration officers confirmed.
