Vice Governor Chokdee Armonwat along with deputy chief of Cherng Talay SAO, local beach committee and vendor representatives went out to marked the 10pc zone at Surin Beach in Cherng Talay.

Surin Beach, at 870 metres in length will be divided into two zones each zone 40m wide. One zone is on the South end of the beach close to Maam Seafood Restaurant, the other on the North end close to Audi Seafood Restaurant.

At Bang Tao, as not much space is needed for beach vendors the area will be 400m, however, the beach committee will have another meeting to see if this actually amount of space is required.

“After discussing Bang Tao Beach with the Cherng Talay SAO chief we agreed to set one beach vendor zone to begin with,” Siri Yoktong Deputy Chief of Cherng Talay SAO told The Phuket News today.

“The beach vendor zone in Bang Tao will be set near the Bang Tao Beach Hotel as this area has been used as a vendor zone previously.

There will be no 10% zone at Leh Phang Beach as land encroachment cases are still pending there.

However, V/Gov Chokdee will meet with the Cherng Talay SAO chief Ma-an Samran next week to find the best solution for beach vendors.

“We cannot wait for the pending cases to be complete as they will take a long time and it will affect local vendors. V/Gov Chokdee and Mr Ma-an will find a place for them to do their business in the meantime.

“They are due to meet on Tuesday (Nov 17) at Thalang District Office,” Mr Siri said.

V/Gov Chokdee said that he will try to help the beach vendors at Leh Phang beach as fast as he can, but they it has to be certain they really are local people.

“The local committee will look into the affected beach vendors and make sure they really are locals who earn their living on the beach. There will be no investors or illegal workers among them,” V/Gov Chokdee said.
