Acting park chief Phanatthaporn Ketsakul signed an order yesterday to temporarily close the 400-square-kilometre park in Phang Nga for two days to ensure the safety of visitors.
The storm, which is moving into the country from the Vietnamese coast, is expected to bring more rain to the Andaman Sea, this weekend, reports the Bangkok Post.
The park has already encountered heavy rain, gusty winds and rough seas, which pose dangers to boats and visitors, according to the announcement.
Ao Phang Nga National Park in Phang Nga Bay is a famous stop for tourists attracted by Koh Tapu, better known as James Bond Island, and Koh Panyi.
Koh Tapu became widely recognised after being featured in the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” in 1974.
The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has also announced the closure of Than Bok Khorani National Park in Ao Luk district, Krabi, from yesterday to Monday.
Khao Sok National Park in Phanom district in Surat Thai is also closed until further notice due to heavy downpours and windy conditions.
Storm Soulik weakens in Thailand but rain persists
Tropical Storm Soulik is spreading across Thailand and will continue to drench many areas this weekend despite losing strength as it moves on, forecasters say.
The latest warning from the Meteorological Department last night said that about 50 provinces, including Bangkok, would encounter rain or heavy rain through Monday due to the impact of the storm.
Soulik entered Thailand via Nakhon Phanom in the Northeast around 10am yesterday and was downgraded to a low pressure system, according to the weathermen. It is moving westward and still carries momentum to affect the country, especially the northern and northeastern regions, they added.
Provincial authorities are also preparing measures to cope with possible flooding.
