A handover ceremony for the donated items was held on Monday morning (Aug 4) at the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Building of Patong Municipality.

Presiding over the ceremony was Phuket Vice Governor Adul Chuthong, who was welcomed by Patong Mayor Lalita Maneesri, municipal executives, councillors and heads of local government departments.

Also present were officials from the Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office (DDPM Phuket) and representatives from the Patong Entertainment Business Association, Patong Development Foundation, local businesses and community members.

Mayor Lalita said the donations reflected the unity and compassion of the Patong community in helping fellow Thais affected by the border conflict, particularly military personnel stationed in the area.

The items collected include: 379 boxes of ready-to-eat food; 925 packs of drinking water; 10 bags of clothing; 50 boxes of tea, coffee and other beverages; B70,412 in cash

The supplies were gathered by Patong Municipality from donors in Patong and surrounding areas. They will be forwarded to Phuket Provincial officials and transported to affected provinces along the border on Wednesday (Aug 6).

The donations are aimed not only at aiding civilians living near the conflict zone but also at boosting the morale of Thai soldiers deployed in the area.

The move has been widely supported on social media under the hashtags #ThailandIsPeacefulButNotCowardlyToWar, #ThaiSoldiersMorale and #PatongMunicipality, with many praising the community’s commitment to national solidarity and humanitarian aid.
