After becoming aware of the video a team of Patong Police officers led by Pol Lt Col Naruebodin Panglisen and Pol Lt Col Suchart Chumphusaeng conducted an investigation into the origins of the video and the parties involved.
The focal point of the inquiry was Prathan Boonthiam, the driver of the tuk-tuk involved in the incident. The vehicle, bearing licence plates 31-5208, was flagged for scrutiny. Mr Boonthiam was summoned to provide information about the occurrence.
According to the investigation’s initial findings, the incident took place when Mr Boonthiam picked up the tourist from the end of Soi Bangla with the intention of dropping him off at a hotel.
After a brief drive, Mr Boonthiam noticed the tourist standing and urinating from the back of the tuk-tuk. In response, Mr Boonthiam promptly drove to Patong Police Station to report the incident.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the tourist, upon realising the impending police involvement, hastily jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene.
The investigating police officers advised tuk-tuk drivers to issue warnings to tourists or promptly inform the police when encountering such incidents, emphasising the importance of reporting such misconduct in relevant sections.
The ongoing investigation aims to identify the tourist involved and address the incident appropriately, ensuring that such behaviour is not tolerated in the popular tourist destination of Patong.
Authorities are committed to maintaining public order and upholding the reputation of the city as a safe and welcoming place for visitors, Patong Police said in their report of the incident.
