Pol Lt Col Surachat Thongyai, an investigating officer at Patong Police Station, confirmed that officers received a complaint from the victim at about 6pm yesterday (Feb 1).
According to police, the woman reported that at about 5am on Saturday she met a Swedish man, appearing to be of Arab Muslim descent, in front of a convenience store on Soi Khlong Bang Wat in Patong. After speaking briefly, the two went to the man’s hotel room, though the exact location has not yet been confirmed.
The woman alleged that once inside the room, the man sexually assaulted her. She reported attempting to escape but was threatened, before eventually managing to flee and return to her accommodation.
Police said the victim later sought help and filed a formal complaint. Officers arranged for her to undergo a medical examination at Patong Hospital as part of the investigation process.
Patong Police confirmed that the incident has been officially recorded and that investigators are working to identify and locate the suspect in order to take legal action.
Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area and coordinating with nearby hotels as part of their inquiries.
