Patong police continue hunt for magic mushrooms

PHUKET: Patong Police have continued their campaign against the illegal sale of mushrooms in the tourism town with the arrest of yet two more people caught selling ‘magic mushrooms’ on Bangla Rd.

The arrests were made at the ‘Puff Puff Shop’ on Bangla Rd at 12:20am today (Nov 8), Patong Police announced in a post online.

Listed as seized in making the arrests were:

  1. 41 nitrous oxide gas cartridges (used)
  2. Three green plastic buckets packed with balloons
  3. Three gas tanks for filling
  4. Two plastic bags of ‘APE’ mushrooms (2 grammes each)
  5. Five plastic bags with ‘DC/APE’ mushrooms packed inside (about 2g each)
  6. Seven plastic bags with ‘APE’ mushrooms packed (about 1g each)
  7. Five plastic bags of ‘DC/APE’ mushrooms (about 2g each)
  8. One plastic bag with ‘DC/APE’ mushrooms packed inside (about 1.7g)
  9. One plastic bag ‘DC/APE’ mushrooms packed inside (about 1.2g)
  10. A bill specifying the sale of nitrous oxide gas using the name on the bill as “Set Box”
  11. Two receipts for nitrous oxide gas paid for through Kasikornbank
  12. Three copies of a brochure offering the sale of ‘buffalo manure mushrooms’ and nitrous oxide gas

The two suspects arrested were not named in the post, but Patong Police confirmed they were taken to the Patong Police Station, where they were charged with jointly selling and possessing a Category 5 narcotic without permission.

They were also charged with jointly selling modern medicine without permission, Patong Police noted.

The raid on the Puff Puff Shop followed police arresting a vendor caught selling illegal mushrooms early Monday morning.

It also follows national Tourist Police chief Maj Gen Saksira Phueakum conducting a visit to Bangla Rd earlier this week.
