The project covers the stretch of Phra Baramee Rd from the Laem Phet U-turn to the area in front of Wyndham Sea Pearl Resort Phuket, which is often jammed with residents, commuters, commercial trucks and vans, and tourists, making their way to and from Phuket’s busiest tourism town.
In a statement released this week, Patong Municipality said it had coordinated with the Phuket Highways Office to accelerate repairs to the road surface and complete traffic line markings as quickly as possible, in the interest of public safety and the protection of property.
However, the announcement confirmed that the project has not yet been completed and that construction work was temporarily suspended during the monsoon season. Prolonged rainfall during rainy months affected road conditions and led to damage to machinery used in the resurfacing works, which required repairs before work could resume.
The municipality noted that these factors had contributed directly to delays in the project timeline and had also affected traffic conditions along the route.
Patong Municipality indicated that work has now resumed and expressed confidence that the resurfacing project will be completed by Jan 31.
The municipality also issued an apology to road users for the inconvenience caused during the construction period, particularly residents and tourists travelling along Phra Baramee Rd.
Patong Municipality reiterated that the improvements are intended to enhance road safety and traffic flow along one of Patong’s busiest routes once the project is completed.
