The video spread across local social media channels, spurring many comments about the behaviour of Patong motorbike taxi drivers.
Patong Police has reported that the motorbike taxi driver, named in their report only as ‘Mr Patiwat’, was brought in to Patong Police Station for questioning at about about 7pm last night (Nov 6).
Patiwat admitted to being the man seen in the video, and admitted to punching the motorbike rider in the head.
He told the police the incident was caused by a traffic accident, Patong Police reported.
“Police officers therefore recorded the personal history and tested Mr Patiwat for drugs in order to proceed with legal action,” Patong Police said in their report.
The result of the drug test was not reported.
Dozens of Patong motorbike taxi drivers were ordered by Patong Police Chief Pol Col Chalermchai Hirasawat to join a meeting on Tuesday night (Nov 5) so that police could explain to them what behaviour was deemed to be appropriate.
The meeting followed a slew of violent incidents involving Patong motorbike taxi drivers throughout the year.
