Patong Police received a distressing report from a concerned neighbour at about 1:15pm yesterday (July 29) about a man brandishing a firearm and threatening to use a gun and a grenade.
The situation was immediately reported to Patong Police Chief Pol Col Chalermchai Hirsawat and officers rushed to the scene, a rental house located in Soi Bang Ton Khao, off Phra Barami Rd.
At the scene, officers found Saranporn Yikaphaet, 25, from Kalasin Province, inside the rental house. According to neighbours, Saranporn had been seen with a firearm and had made threats involving firearms and grenades.
Police quickly assembled and, following established tactical procedures, engaged in negotiations with the suspect, Patong Police reported.
After a tense standoff, Saranporn eventually surrendered.
A search of the room revealed modified firearms, namely a rifle and a handgun, as well as objects resembling bombs along with a hefty collection of bullets.
In addition, Saranporn tested positive for meth use, police confirmed, posting a photo of the drug test results with their report.
Saranporn was charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and the use of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) without permission, police confirmed.
