Patong Police confirmed that traffic will be temporarily closed around the Bangla Rd checkpoint area during the peak of the celebrations. The Sea Pearl Intersection, Thaweewong Rd and Ruamjai Rd will be closed to vehicles from 10:30pm on Dec 31 until 1am on Jan 1. Motorists are urged to avoid the area during this period.

The measures come as Patong prepares to host the ‘Music on the Sand @ Patong Beach’ countdown event on New Year’s Eve.

The preparations were discussed during a coordination meeting led by Patong Mayor Lalita Maneesri, joined by municipal executives, Patong Police, medical teams from Patong Hospital and relevant agencies.

Mayor Lalita stressed that safety remains the top priority, particularly with tens of thousands of tourists expected to gather along the beachfront and Bangla Rd.

She emphasised that the sale and use of fireworks and sky lanterns is strictly prohibited during the festivities, citing risks to public safety, property and aircraft operations.

Patong Municipality has formally issued a notice confirming that anyone lighting or selling fireworks or sky lanterns without permission faces penalties of up to three years in prison, a fine of up to B60,000, or both.

Authorities are urging residents, business operators and tourists to cooperate with safety measures to ensure a secure and enjoyable New Year celebration.

The announcements noted that for further information, the public may contact Patong Police Station at 076-342769.
