Mr Sophon announced the date after he and his two deputies attended a ceremony conferring royal endorsement of their appointments, reports the Bangkok Post. They were elected on Sunday (Mar 15) after the new House convened in the wake of the Feb 8 general election.
Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul, currently caretaker premier, is certain to be elected prime minister again after his party’s convincing victory at the polls.
The new prime minister needs a majority of the 500 seats in the lower house. He is expected to get about 290 votes from the coalition he has put together.
Mr Sophon said that after Thursday’s vote the country will again have a fully authorised government to tackle the nation’s problems, as soon as the new Cabinet is announced and sworn in.
