The incident occurred at about 1:50am at a house in Moo 1, Kathu, police reported.
The vehicle targeted was a grey Isuzu D-Max bearing Phuket licence plates, owned by 39-year-old Prasong Nawong.
The incident was reported to police at around 11am. Officers led by Pol Lt Wiriyapong Srinualpan, Deputy Inspector (Investigation), arrived at the scene along with patrol units to find the pickup parked in front of the house with a bullet hole in the rear driver’s side door.
According to initial questioning, a man inside the house, identified as Wasu Chueamsamang, reported hearing about six gunshots at around 1:50am but did not go outside at the time. The damage to the vehicle was only discovered at around 3am.
Police documented the scene and collected evidence, while forensic officers began examining the vehicle for ballistic traces.
Kathu Police Chief Pol Col Chalermchai Hoersawat has ordered an urgent investigation. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an effort to identify and track down those responsible.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, with investigators considering whether the attack was intended as a warning or linked to a personal dispute.
