The incident occurred on the Karon beach road near the Thavorn Palm Beach Hotel at about 12:10pm.
Firefighters from Karon Municipality and along with traffic police soon arrived to find a white Nissan pickup truck, registered in Phuket, with flames and smoke billowing out from the engine compartment.
Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, with no injuries reported.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the vehicle’s electrical system, completely destroying the engine, noted police.
Police are currently working to identify the pickup’s owner for questioning in order to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
