“Athicha Raymin, 44, from Satun is still being treated at the ICU although she is now managing to speak a little. However, staff at the hospital are still having to monitor her condition closely,” said Phang Nga Hospital deputy director Dr Tipparat Tansakulprasert.
Dr Tipparat added that Ms Athicha's husband, Yindee Raymin, explained that on the day of the incident, Ms Athicha was sitting behind the driver on the upper level of the bus and her face and neck caught on fire.
“The incident has already claimed the lives of Dang Paharat who was pronounced dead at the scene; Ms Sunisa Chookaew, who died in ICU the day after the incident, and on Saturday (Oct 10), we lost Nong Toon, the 12 year old who was in ICU suffering from smoke inhalation,” Dr Tipparat said. Ms Athicha is the victim who remains in ICU, the other injured victims have either been released from hospital or have been transferred to hospitals in other provinces hospital staff said.
The bus company that owned the bus has covered the medical expenses of all the victims, while the bus driver has since been charged with negligence resulting in death and injury. (See story here)
