Muslim Dakan, 23, died after the motorbike he was riding slammed into a power pole by the side of Thepkrasattri Rd in front of Suan Pa Bang Kanun in Thalang at about 6am.
His passenger Aphatsara Suriyakan, 19, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Thalang Hospital.
“We believe they were speeding at the time of the accident,” Lt Supon Meangkai of the Thalang Police said.
“Plus, the motorbike is new. Mr Muslim might not have had much experience in handling the new bike and this might have contributed to crashing into the pole.”
The Seven Days of Danger road-safety campaign began at midnight Monday night and will continue until midnight at the close of January 4.*
