Patong Police investigator Lt Col Chanarong Prakongkuea said the accident occurred at 8:18pm on Phra Baramee Rd at a curve on Patong Hill.
Officers arriving at the scene found a yellow Daihatsu tuk-tuk lying on its side in the outbound lane heading from Patong toward Kathu.
Driver Ekarin Jarujinda, 54, told police he was transporting five Omani tourists from Phuket Town to a hotel in Patong when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the steep curve, causing the tuk-tuk to overturn.
All five passengers, identified by police as Omani nationals Sulaiman Said Sulaiman Al Mamari, 19; Faisal Ali Sulaiman Al Mamari, 21; Faris Sulaiman Hamdan Al Jahwari, 24; Salim Ali Sulaiman Al Mamari, 23; and Sulaiman Ali Sulaiman Al Mamari, 29, sustained minor injuries and were provided first aid by Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation rescue workers at the scene. No fatalities were reported.
Police documented the scene as evidence and filed an initial charge against Ekarin of driving negligently causing injury to others and property damage.
Results of alcohol and drug tests were pending at the time of reporting as police continued their investigation into the incident.
