At around 11:30am, local rescue workers were called to render assistance at Patong Beach where a sick dolphin was found washed ashore.

Kusoldharm rescue workers, along with lifeguards, tried to pull the dolphin back to the sea, but the dolphin kept swimming ashore, so the rescue staff informed the Phuket Marine Biological Centre (PMBC) and requested assistance.

PMBC officials arrived at the scene and arranged transportation of the dolphin to their facility, but the mammal died before reaching the centre.

"Kusoldharm Rescue Foundation staff believe the dolphin came to the beach because of a sickness," said Prathaiyut Chuayuan, head of thr Phuket Lifeguard Service.

According to Phuket lifeguards, the dolphin weighed around 100-150kg. The mammal's gender is yet to be identified.
