Yesterday (May 19) officers led by Maj Adichart Amornpradit from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) together with officers from Department of Intellectual Property raided and seized illegal counterfeit items at the IT zone in the second floor of Central Festival in Wichit.
According to a police report, 11 shops were raided including Panhya shop, OA shop, Nice shop, Soni Ericson shop, Naza Phone shop, Sawasdee shop, Phuket Unlock shop, At One shop, OIL Mobile shop, I Mobile shop and PK shop.
Most of the counterfeit items seized are mobile phone cases imprinted with fake brand names such as Louis Vuitton, Channal, Gucci, and MCM. Other items are fake Beats and JBL headphones, fake apple chargers, fake JBL and Boss loudspeakers.
Eleven of the shops owners were arrested and charged for selling counterfeit trademark items, but police did not name any of the suspects. They could be jailed for up to four years or fined up to 400,000 baht or both under the charge of selling goods with a forged registered trademark.
Yesterday’s raid follows a series of raids in the tourist-popular Patong Beach area on Thursday, May 18, were in a matter of hours police seized more than 10,000 illegal trademark items with an estimated street value of more than B20 million. See story here
